There's so much to learn about promotion and marketing: social media, websites, conversions, Facebook advertising, LinkedIn marketing ... and countless other activities that each add to greater and greater success, IF you use them properly.
Not understanding any one of them can send you down a rabbit hole. For instance, attempting to use social media to get the word out about your book can become very time consuming with little to no results.
Another example is not having a deep enough understanding of websites in their potentials and uses and therefore just copying what everybody else does ... which is as wrong as you can get when it comes to getting new business.
We need to take things in stride, and I am taking all sorts of precautions to keep overwhelm out of the picture for you. Also, I'm seeking to bring you along a path that gives the most return on your efforts within the least amount of time.
This doesn't mean you're going to get "fast and easy" results. As you may know about me, I don't like it when marketers claim that things very complex and challenging are "oh so easy". It is misleading to say such nonsense.
I'd like to go a little deeper into websites in this mini-guide. "Three Main Types of Websites" is an excellent mini-guide, but there are more fundamentals about websites that I feel will be very advantageous to you.
No doubt, the more you know about the underlying facts of something, the more brilliant you can be with it moving forward. Understand that although things have to be grouped and categorized for simplicity's sake, you have limitless options to build a website for yourself.
I am promoting that you start with a landing page, and then you can begin to build a hybrid site over time that does exactly what it needs to. That could be more landing pages with different messages for other audiences, different offers, products and services, etc. And you can also combine some of the features of the three main groups of websites, which I explain further below.
So, take what I teach in the previous article on websites, and combine your knowledge with the following for a broader understanding of websites and their capabilities.
Based on your specific business, you can be strategic with your Web Designer by letting her/him know what your long-term plans are. Having this kind of foresight is very important because if the wrong template or initial design of your website isn't made for future growth plans, it could be costly to have to rebuild from square one.
As a side note, you may end up having a lot of lead generation-type websites that are mini-sites and also have one of the other types, like E-commerce, Publishing, or a combination thereof.

More realistically for an author, solo-preneur or small business, this kind of website would only contain content specifically within the scope of your genre, topic or products/services.
